Introduction
This is an competency elective unit, which looks at the process of maintaining aircraft instrument systems.

Course Title

ATTC is an approved training organisation by SkillsFuture Singapore for WSQ courses.

Industry Need
Those who want a career switch to aviation industry and newly recruited personnel, who wish to seek recognition as trained technicians in the aviation industry.

Course Objective
On completion of this competency unit, learner will have the knowledge and application skills for this competency unit using appropriate tools, equipment, materials and methods.

Course Synopsis
The competency elements covered in this competency unit are:
1) Maintain Air Data Systems and Instruments
2) Maintain Gyroscopic Instruments and Compass Systems
3) Maintain Indicating and Warning Systems
4) Maintain Flight Data Recording Systems

Primarily, people who require such competencies are technicians who perform aircraft maintenance (avionics).

In relation to the Higher Certificate in Aerospace Maintenance (Aircraft Maintenance – Avionics), this is the specialisation/elective competency unit that is required for the said qualification.

Course Structure
There are four competency elements for this module unit. They are:

1) Maintain Air Data Systems and Instruments:

  • principles of pitot and static pressure
  • basic description of main components and operation of air data systems and instruments
  • maintenance of air data systems and instruments
  • preparation for operational checks of air data systems and instruments
  • safety precautions in maintaining air data systems and instruments
  • processing maintenance documentation

2) Maintain Gyroscopic Instruments and Compass Systems:

  • principles of rigidity and precession of gyroscopes
  • earth magnetic field and magnetic variation
  • basic description of main components and operation of gyroscopic instruments and compass systems
  • maintenance of gyroscopic instruments and compass systems
  • preparation for operational checks of gyroscopic instruments and compass systems
  • safety precautions in maintaining gyroscopic instruments and compass systems
  • processing maintenance documentation

3) Maintain Indicating and Warning Systems:

  • basic description of main components and operation of indicating and warning systems
  • maintenance of indicating and warning systems
  • preparation for operational checks of indicating and warning systems
  • safety precautions in maintaining indicating and warning systems
  • processing maintenance documentation

4) Maintain Flight Data Recording Systems:

  • sources of flight data
  • basic description of main components and operation of flight data recording systems
  • types of data recorded
  • maintenance of flight data recording systems
  • preparation for operational checks of flight data recording systems
  • safety precautions in maintaining flight data recording systems
  • processing maintenance documentation

Student – Lecturer Ratio
Theory: Lecturer to Students is 1:32

Practical: Lecturer to Students is 1:16

Learning And Teaching Methods
All classes will be a mix of lectures and practical skills training

Student Assessment
WSQ courses are assessed by practical assessments

Admission Requirement
WSQ Employability Skills WPLN Proficiency Level 4 equivalent to Lower Secondary

Graduation Requirement
Successful completion of this course will lead to the award of WSQ SOA in Maintain Aircraft Instrument Systems category under Aircraft Maintenance – Avionics framework

Attendance Requirement
Students must achieve a minimum of 75% attendance for all individual modules

SSG Funding

Only Singapore residents and Singapore PR (Permanent Residents) taking this course can apply for 90% subsidy on course fees. –

The general eligibility criteria for company sponsored applicants are listed as follows: –
1. Company are registered or incorporated in Singapore
2. Supported cost components (such as Course fees) are fully sponsored by company
3. Trainees are employees who are either Singapore Citizen or Singapore Permanent Resident only
4. Trainee have achieved attendance requirement
